According to official reports, the aircraft, which was carrying eight individuals, lost contact while en route to Obuasi. The helicopter reportedly struck a tree in Adansi Brofoyedu, igniting a fire that completely destroyed the aircraft. So far, four dismembered bodies have been recovered from the scene, with identification efforts still ongoing. The remaining passengers are presumed dead.

Military recovery operations are still underway, and authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident. Preliminary suspicions point to poor visibility or mechanical failure as potential causes. Official details will be released after next-of-kin have been informed.

This tragic event mirrors a similar incident earlier this year in Kenya. On April 18, 2024, Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Omondi Ogolla, lost his life in a military helicopter crash in the North Rift region. The Bell UH-1H “Huey II” went down shortly after takeoff from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School, Elgeyo Marakwet County, during a mission under Operation Maliza Uhalifu. The crash, which also claimed the lives of nine senior officers, was later attributed to an engine compressor stall that caused complete power failure. Two soldiers survived and were hospitalized.

Further updates on the Ghana crash are expected as investigations progress.
