The National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC) Abia State led by Comrade Prince has recently passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe. The decision was announced after a meeting held by NANS JCC members where they deliberated on various issues pertaining to the leadership and management of the university.

The vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor comes amidst growing concerns and criticisms from various quarters regarding the administration of MOUAU. The NANS JCC members praised the Vice Chancellor for his commitment to the development of the university and his efforts in promoting academic excellence and student welfare.

In a statement released after the meeting, the NANS JCC emphasized the need for students and other stakeholders to support the Vice Chancellor and his team in their quest to advance the university’s academic and research standing. They also called for unity among students and staff to create a conducive learning environment for all members of the university community.

The announcement of the vote of confidence has been welcomed by the university administration and is seen as a validation of the Vice Chancellor’s leadership and vision for MOUAU. The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude to NANS JCC for their support and reassured them of his commitment to ensuring the continued growth and success of the university.

The vote of confidence passed by NANS JCC on the MOUAU Vice Chancellor signals a positive endorsement of his leadership and management style, and serves as a testament to his dedication to the development of the university.

During the recent meeting between the NANS JCC members and the Vice Chancellor and University management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), several appeals and requests were made by the student body. These requests aimed to address various issues affecting the student community and to improve the overall learning and administrative environment at the university.

1. Payment of School Fees Installments: One of the key appeals made by the NANS JCC members was for the university to allow students to pay their school fees in installments. This request was likely driven by the financial constraints faced by many students, and the installment payment option would provide more flexibility and relief to students struggling to meet the full fee payment deadlines.

2. Renovation of SUG Secretariat: Another important appeal was for the renovation of the Student Union Government (SUG) Secretariat, which had been destroyed by students. The SUG Secretariat serves as a vital space for student activities, meetings, and representation, and its restoration was seen as crucial for maintaining a functional student governance system on campus.

3. Restart of Exams: The NANS JCC members also advocated for the restart of exams.

4. Congress Meeting: Additionally, the appeal for a Congress meeting reflects the students’ desire for a platform to engage with university management, voice their concerns, and participate in decision-making processes that affect their welfare and academic pursuits.

It is important to note that these appeals and requests highlight the concerns and priorities of the student body at MOUAU. The dialogue and interactions between NANS JCC and the university management are essential for addressing these issues, fostering cooperation, and creating a conducive learning environment for all stakeholders involved.

It could be recalled that during the lockdown of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) due to protests by the students, the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC) Abia State played a crucial role in ensuring that the university was able to resume its activities quickly.

NANS JCC extends appreciation to the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, The Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe and the member representing Ikwuano and Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha for their support and cooperation in resolving the issues that led to the protests. Their dedication to the welfare and wellbeing of the students and the university community is commendable.
