… Urge Govt to implement all Agreements before 28th of July 2024.
To All Industrial Unions:
Following the reconvened meeting with the government on Saturday, July 13, the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Congress reviewed the written and signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Abia State. It was noted with dismay that the MOU lacked signatures from the principal government officers responsible for state finances—the Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General. Instead, it was signed by the Chief of Staff (COS), who led the government side during negotiations.
Consequently, the SEC-in-session has resolved the following:
1. The aforementioned government officials (Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General) must sign the MOU.
2. The indefinite strike action will commence if the government fails to fulfill its promise to pay the ₦15,000 palliative wage award with the July 2024 workers’ salary.
3. After 00:00 hours on Sunday, July 28, 2024, there will be no further notice to the government before the commencement of the indefinite strike action on Monday, July 29, 2024.
4. The government must begin implementing parts of the MOU before July 28, 2024.
In light of these resolutions, comrades, I am directed to inform all affiliate members and their members that the previously scheduled strike is hereby relaxed until 00:00 hours on Sunday, July 28, 2024. If the government fails to meet its promises within this period, the strike action will commence on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The Council appreciates your unwavering solidarity and commitment to the struggle.
SOLIDARITY FOREVER!
