Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has addressed the nation, urging Nigerians to use the power of the ballot over protest in addressing the current challenges facing the country. In a statement issued on Friday, Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of good governance, transparency, and accountability.
“My Fellow Nigerians,”Kwankwaso began, expressing a deep sense of responsibility. He acknowledged the avoidable hardships caused by missed opportunities since 2007 but highlighted the potential for correction and progress. He called for ensuring good governance, respecting the rule of law, and prioritizing citizens’ welfare.
Kwankwaso lamented the poor governance that has led to widespread discontent among citizens, particularly the youth, citing examples of government interference in chieftaincy matters, political crises, sabotage, and widespread insecurity. He appealed to leaders at all levels to address these challenges and steer the country toward better governance.
“Today, I speak to you not just as an elder and a concerned citizen but as someone who deeply believes in the power and potential of our great nation,”he said. Kwankwaso acknowledged the recent calls for protests against bad governance, understanding the frustration and yearning for change shared by many Nigerians.
However, he urged citizens to be patient with the government and provide the necessary support to ensure its success. “If any government fails to provide the necessary leadership for a better Nigeria, we will have the opportunity as citizens to elect the people who can bring the required change using our votes,”Kwankwaso stated.
In his address, Kwankwaso pointed out the dire consequences of national protests, citing past events that escalated into violence, property destruction, and chaos. He encouraged Nigerians to consider the long-term impact of such actions and to channel their energy into peaceful and effective means of transformation through the electoral process.
“Protests, while a fundamental democratic right, often come with unforeseen and dire consequences,”Kwankwaso warned. He reiterated the importance of using the ballot as a tool for change, urging Nigerians to prioritize the nation’s progress and unity.
