Abuja, Nigeria.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to unite in support of President Bola Tinubu as he navigates the country through its socio-political, economic, and security challenges. Speaking at the launch of the book Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria by Prof. Modupe Adelabu in Abuja on Thursday, Shettima assured the public that the benefits of the administration’s tough measures will soon become apparent.
During his remarks, the Vice President downplayed the significance of President Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, revealing that his own house in Maiduguri is superior. He emphasized that there was “nothing special” about the President’s Bourdillon home, a statement meant to illustrate Tinubu’s humility and focus on governance over luxury.
“In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have a leader that we can invest our trust in. I’m not playing politics, I’m speaking from the heart. I have seen the soul of Bola Tinubu, and he has a good soul,” Shettima said. He praised the President for his commitment to the nation, highlighting his simple lifestyle and dedication to leaving a lasting legacy rather than accumulating wealth.
Shettima also addressed the economic challenges the administration inherited, acknowledging that while the current government was part of the previous administration, the focus should now be on finding solutions rather than assigning blame. He expressed confidence that the economy is now on a path to sustained growth, noting improvements in oil production and currency stabilization.
“The President had the courage, the political courage, and the willpower to take far-reaching decisions, and it always comes at a price… I believe that posterity will be very kind to this poor man,” Shettima added, urging Nigerians to rally around Tinubu during this period of transformation.
In addition to economic issues, Shettima expressed concern over the state of basic education in northern Nigeria and the involvement of underage children in recent protests. He attributed these problems to a breakdown in family values and a dysfunctional family system, calling for renewed focus on these areas.
The book launch event was attended by prominent figures including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, former APC Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several former governors and lawmakers.
