The Federal Government has announced Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, conveyed the government’s congratulations to the Muslim Ummah, both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, on this significant occasion. He urged the Muslim community and Nigerians at large to embrace patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this period of celebration.
The Minister also called on Muslims to use the holiday as an opportunity to pray for lasting peace and prosperity in Nigeria, encouraging them to continue fostering unity and an egalitarian society.
The announcement was signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
