The Edo State Government has raised concerns regarding a potential threat from former Deputy Governor Comrade @HonPhilipShaibu, who is reportedly planning to invade the Edo State Government House on Monday, September 30. This move comes despite the existence of a stay of execution appeal challenging a ruling by Justice J. K. Omotosho.

In an official statement, Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Edo State Government, urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and concerned Nigerians to intervene and dissuade Shaibu from what is described as a dangerous plot that could lead to chaos. Osagie emphasized the urgency of the situation, recalling a previous incident in which a police officer was killed during Shaibu’s last attempt to assert his claims.

“We have gathered intelligence indicating that Comrade Philip Shaibu intends to forcefully enter the Government House to enforce the ruling of Justice J. K. Omotosho,” Osagie stated. “Given that a stay of execution is pending in the Court of Appeal, we implore the IGP to act decisively to prevent any potential anarchy stemming from one individual’s ambitions.”

Osagie further noted that government attorneys have communicated with the IGP and relevant stakeholders, stressing the importance of maintaining order during this legal process. He highlighted that all actions related to the enforcement of Justice Omotosho’s ruling should be stayed until the appeal is fully resolved, in order to protect the integrity of the judicial system and maintain peace in Benin City and across Edo State.

The government’s appeal underscores the significant concerns regarding public safety and the need for law enforcement to remain vigilant in light of these developments.
