The Rivers State Police Command has taken over and sealed the premises of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
This move follows an injunction issued by a Federal High Court, which ordered the suspension of any electoral activities in the state. The court’s decision also prohibited security agencies from providing any form of security or participation in the election process on the said date.
Photos from the scene show a heavy police presence around the RSIEC offices, with officers ensuring that no activities take place on the premises.
