The Katsina State High Court has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of Umar Iliya Damagum as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The suit, filed by PDP member Ibrahim Musa, contested Damagum’s appointment, claiming that the replacement of former National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, violated the party’s constitution.
Musa argued that Ayu’s successor should have been selected from the North-Central geopolitical zone, where Ayu is from. However, Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari dismissed the case, stating that it pertains to the internal affairs of the party and is outside the court’s jurisdiction.
In his ruling, Justice Bawa-Faskari upheld the preliminary objection raised by the defendants, declaring the matter “not justiciable” as it falls solely under the PDP’s internal matters.
