President Bola Tinubu has expressed relief over the safe return of Nigeria’s Super Eagles after their harrowing experience at a Libyan airport. The team was subjected to inhumane treatment, prompting the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to withdraw the squad from their scheduled AFCON qualifier match.
In a statement, President Tinubu commended the swift response by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, whose coordinated efforts ensured the safe return of the players. He praised the resilience of the Super Eagles, acknowledging their determination despite the ordeal.
The president called for swift justice, urging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to carry out a thorough investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action against those responsible for violating CAF’s Statutes and Regulations.
President Tinubu also stressed the unifying role of football, condemning the treatment of the Nigerian team as unsportsmanlike and inhumane. He encouraged football administrators and enthusiasts to work together to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring the integrity of the sport is upheld.
