FG Launches Nigeria–East/Southern Africa Air Cargo Corridor

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and commitment to diversifying Nigeria’s non-oil exports, the Federal Government has launched the Nigeria–East/Southern Africa Air Cargo Corridor. Announced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the initiative was unveiled on Africa Day at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in partnership with UNDP and Uganda Airlines.

This strategic export route connects Nigeria to Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa—three key African markets—offering Nigerian MSMEs discounted air cargo rates of 50–75% and faster delivery timelines. Preferential rates apply to members of key business associations such as NACCIMA, NASME, NASSI, and the Women Chamber of Commerce.

The corridor will operate from Lagos and Abuja, with strong inter-agency collaboration from Finance, Aviation, Customs, and FAAN. The maiden shipment featured Made-in-Nigeria goods from women-owned enterprises, including textiles, cosmetics, and agro-processed products.

With AfCFTA tariffs now gazetted, Nigerian goods can benefit from reduced cross-border costs. The Tinubu administration remains committed to supporting local businesses in scaling their exports and expanding Nigeria’s footprint across the continent.
