Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has taken a swipe at his successor, Nyesom Wike, stating that Wike elevated himself politically without merit or guidance.
Speaking in a recent interview with Arise Tv, Amaechi said he initially considered Wike for the position of Chief of Staff during his administration so he could be closely supervised. He denied ever offering Wike the role of Commissioner for Finance.
“I wanted him as Chief of Staff so I could supervise him. I didn’t offer him Commissioner for Finance,” Amaechi stated. “He made himself Chief of Staff. He made himself Governor. He made himself Minister. He made himself Local Government Chairman.”
Amaechi also took aim at recent political fanfare around infrastructure projects in Rivers State, subtly criticizing Wike’s approach to publicity.
“I performed well as governor; people are building flyovers today and making noise. I built six flyovers in Rivers State; I did not make any noise or call the president to commission them,” he said.
