Governors Sim Fubara of Rivers State and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what appears to be a major political shift in Nigeria’s South-South region.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the revelation during a party rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to welcome Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno into the APC. He commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for initiating the wave of defections in the region.

“This is just the beginning,” Akpabio said. “After Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, the Governor of Rivers will join the APC; then, after him, the Governor of Bayelsa State will also join.”

Although Governor Diri had earlier denied plans to defect, political observers believe ongoing realignments may influence his decision. Governor Fubara’s move is reportedly only delayed by his current suspension, which insiders say will soon be lifted.

Fubara have been missing from all PDP Activities both in his Home state and in the National.

Fubara is the Deputy Chairman PDP Governors Forum.

The South may likely belong to APC before 2027 General Election.

The APC recovered Edo during the official cycle election last year and also captured Delta State with the Defection of Governor Sheriff.
