Abuja, Nigeria — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has launched a scathing attack on prominent opposition figures and coalition leaders, questioning their credibility and political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a media interaction in Abuja, Wike dismissed the efforts of opposition leaders who claim they want to “rescue Nigeria,” accusing them of being driven by personal grievances and failed political ambitions.
Wike took a swipe at former Senate President David Mark, revealing that Mark had once sought to become the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was denied the opportunity. He also noted that Mark’s daughter won an election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his federal constituency, a development Wike cited as evidence of Mark’s diminishing influence within the PDP.
“In Rivers State, I defeated Rotimi Amaechi all round — when he was Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign and even as a super minister. What did he achieve?” Wike stated pointedly.
Turning his attention to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, the minister decried the level of corruption that allegedly thrived under Malami’s eight-year tenure, saying it “cannot be overemphasized.”

Wike didn’t spare PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar either, mocking his long-standing quest for power and party inconsistency: “Atiku was vice president for 8 years, and he’s been hovering from one party to another. What is he going to tell his children?”
The minister also criticized former Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha, who recently left the PDP over internal disputes, particularly concerning the continued tenure of Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) as PDP National Secretary.
“Instead of these elements admitting they are simply bitter over being defeated or sidelined, they now claim Nigerians are angry and that they want to rescue the country,” Wike said.
