Former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in his political journey.
Speaking to members of the Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) at his residence in Owerri, Ihedioha announced that the ADC will now serve as the political home for him and his supporters.
“I want to formally declare that my party, your party, our party is now ADC,” he said. “That is the way forward. That is the platform for all of us.”
Ihedioha, who exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2024, had remained politically unaffiliated until now.
He called on RIM leaders to begin grassroots mobilization across the state’s 305 wards, emphasizing the movement’s existing presence in all polling units and its active structures in the 27 LGAs and three senatorial zones of Imo State.
“Our strength lies in the people. We are a grassroots movement. Go back to your chapters, wards, LGAs and zones. Take this message to the people,” he charged. “Revitalize our RIM structures. They are already effective and vibrant — let’s make them even stronger.”
The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives also expressed gratitude to his loyal supporters.
“I deeply appreciate your patience, loyalty and commitment throughout this period of political transition,” he said. “To our Director General, state executive members, zonal, LGA and ward leaders — I thank you all. Special appreciation to our women, ably represented by Lady Ijeoma Domike, and to our resilient youths. Together, we will succeed.”
Ihedioha was among several notable political figures present at the formal unveiling of ADC as the opposition coalition’s platform during a high-level event in Abuja on Wednesday.
