In a statement Obaseki expressed his profound gratitude to the people of Edo State and Nigerians for their overwhelming support in the recent gubernatorial election. Despite the Supreme Court ruling against his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obaseki emphasized his commitment to the rule of law while cautioning about the potential dangers of judicial validation of manipulated elections to Nigeria’s democracy.
Obaseki stated, “I am profoundly grateful to the good people of Edo State and Nigerians for their overwhelming support for the victory, which we believe our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, won in the Edo State Governorship Election, which took place on September 21, 2024.”

The governor further explained that based on his conviction and belief that the results were manipulated, his party took legal action, starting with the Election Petition Tribunal, then the Court of Appeal, and finally, the Supreme Court. However, the courts ruled against them.
Obaseki continued, “Although we strongly disagree with the decision of the Supreme Court, but as adherents to the rule of law, we are bound by their verdict.” He warned that the iconic manner in which the Edo election was manipulated, coupled with the judicial validation it has received, portends grave danger for Nigeria’s democracy.
The governor concluded by encouraging his people to keep hope alive as they persist in the struggle to redeem their fatherland. He ended with a blessing, saying, “God bless the good people of Edo State. God bless all Nigerians.”
