ABUJA — As the All Progressives Congress APC, prepares for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for July 24, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appears to have entered the race for the party’s substantive national chairman.

Posters of the former governor were spotted on Thursday along the busy Airport Road in Abuja, signaling his possible ambition to lead the ruling party.

A source within the party disclosed that the NEC might opt to convene a national convention in December to elect a substantive national chairman. In the interim, the committee is expected to endorse Bukar Dalori as Acting National Chairman.

“The NEC may merely endorse Bukar Dalori’s emergence as acting National Chairman ahead of the December convention,” the source told Nigerian Tribune in confidence.

Other notable figures believed to be eyeing the position—zoned to the North Central—include former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, and former Plateau State Governor, Senator Joshua Dariye.

The party’s upcoming leadership decision is expected to significantly shape its direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
