Speaking to journalists, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi, declared that the party would conduct transparent and competitive primary elections ahead of the polls.
“There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favored this time around,” Arabambi stated.
In a bold critique of the party’s past decisions, Arabambi described the emergence of Peter Obi as the presidential candidate in 2023 as “a blunder and a betrayal of Nigerians.” He said the party is determined to correct what he called a costly mistake as it prepares for 2027.
The party spokesperson also dismissed the current efforts by some political actors to form a new coalition, branding them “Yahoo Yahoo politicians” who, he claimed, were responsible for the hardship Nigerians have faced since 2015.
Arabambi emphasized that the Labour Party would reposition itself as a credible alternative by learning from past errors and embracing internal democracy.
