In a resignation letter made public on Wednesday, Momodu cited the alleged hijacking of the PDP by anti-democratic elements as his reason for leaving the party.
He wrote:
> “I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”
Momodu described the current state of the PDP as a “carcass” and said it was only honourable to walk away.
> “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
He expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time in the PDP, adding that he will always treasure the experience.
Dele Momodu, known for his political activism and media influence, joins a growing list of political figures shifting base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
