Abuja –The Presidency has fired back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it described as a “dishonest and opportunistic” statement on the recent state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing the party of exploiting a solemn national moment for political gain.

In a strongly worded press release issued on Saturday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communications, the government dismissed the ADC’s claim that President Tinubu’s administration was politicising Buhari’s burial as “laughable” and “insulting to millions of mourning Nigerians.”
“The latest outburst from the ADC is nothing but a manufactured tantrum from a party clawing desperately for relevance,” the statement read. “They have chosen to dance on Buhari’s grave for attention — that is the real exploitation.”
The Presidency maintained that the burial of former President Buhari was conducted with full honours, attracting global dignitaries and widespread national participation, noting that even political figures aligned with the ADC were present in Daura “prancing about the Buhari family compound like eager real estate agents.”
Responding to the ADC’s criticism, the statement accused the party of abandoning decency and engaging in a pattern of “disjointed press statements” in a futile attempt to appear relevant as an opposition voice.
“President Tinubu’s administration is not desperate for popularity. We prefer to let our achievements speak,” Dare said, reeling out a list of government accomplishments under the Renewed Hope Agenda. These included:
Stabilisation of the naira and harmonisation of exchange rates
Increase in oil production to 1.7 million barrels per day
Over 60% rise in FAAC allocations
Revival of salary and pension payments in 31 previously struggling states
Major infrastructure projects like the Ogbia-Nembe Road and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
Launch of student loan scheme (NELFUND) benefiting nearly 400,000 students
Establishment of regional development commissions
Introduction of a consumer credit scheme to support economic inclusion and tackle corruption
“These are not press releases — these are results,” the statement emphasized.
The government further accused the ADC of being riddled with internal conflicts and legal disputes, branding it “a poorly amalgamated contraption” with nothing tangible to offer Nigerians.
“Let it be said without equivocation: Nigerians are not fooled. No press statement — however venomous — can erase the facts of progress. President Tinubu honoured Buhari with dignity in death and continues to honour his legacy through hard work, not hollow words,” the release concluded.
The Presidency urged Nigerians to disregard what it termed “political noise” from “an outfit gasping for attention,” adding that governance would continue without distraction under the Tinubu administration.
