Speaking during a recent appearance on Sunday Politics, a political programme on Channels Television, Hon. Ogah cited the example of a former Nigerian president whose remains were flown back into the country weeks ago, emphasizing the urgent need for reforms in the country’s health and education sectors.

“It is a shame that at every point in time, our big men travel outside the country for medical services,” he stated.

Hon. Ogah made the remarks while defending a proposed bill seeking to prohibit public and civil servants from patronizing private schools and healthcare facilities abroad. The bill, according to him, aims to compel public officials to improve public institutions by relying on them.

“If we must get it right in this country, our leaders must lead by example. They should use the same hospitals and schools available to the average Nigerian,” he added.

The lawmaker insisted that unless the political class begins to invest and trust in Nigeria’s institutions, meaningful development will remain a mirage.
