He emphasized that the weather of public discourse should not distract from President Tinubu’s tenure, urging that the 2027 election should not be on their minds. “This is because Tinubu has done so well and will continue in that line to better the lot of the citizens and the country.”
Akume made the remarks during a two‑day Interactive Session on Government–citizens’ Engagement convened in Kaduna by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.
He dismissed narratives suggesting the North has been sidelined, arguing that President Tinubu has appointed many northerners who are performing well. “The narrative that the North is not carried along is not true. The Super Highway from Sokoto to Bagary is longer than that of Lagos–Calabar,” he stated.
Reflecting on the administration’s performance over two years and two months, Akume highlighted achievements across governance: improved security architecture, revitalised agriculture, reduced food prices, bolstered infrastructure, and strengthened diplomacy and tax reforms.
Reaffirming Tinubu’s impartial leadership, he said, “There is a need to encourage someone who is doing well so that he can do more.”
Akume urged patriotic northern figures to postpone presidential ambitions till 2031, warning against joining forces that would undermine the progress made. “Don’t join a group that will stifle the various developments achieved by President Tinubu,” he said, pointing to benefits like fuel subsidy removal freeing funds for sub‑national projects delivering democratic dividends.
He described the Renewed Hope Agenda not as slogan but as a national determination to restore hope across all regions.
In conclusion, Akume reiterated that Tinubu has laid foundations for a “New Nigeria” through visionary leadership, touching every region without bias and delivering tangible benefits over the past two years and two months.
