President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoniland—a development sparking renewed interest in Nigeria’s education system.

The President named Prof. Don Mon Baridam as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Baridam, a distinguished professor of Management with expertise in Organisational Behaviour, previously served at the University of Port Harcourt. Prof. Chinedu Mmom, an academic in Geography and Environmental Management and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, will serve as the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor.
The council reflects regional diversity, with members including Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).
Additional key appointments include Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (Registrar, South South), Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (Bursar, North Central), and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (Librarian, South South).
The Federal University of Environment and Technology is scheduled to welcome its first set of students in September 2025, following the establishment bill signed into law by President Tinubu on February 3, 2025.
