Former chief of staff to the Immediate past Governor of Abia state and the candidate of the PDP for Isiala Ngwa North and South federal House of Representatives in the just concluded 2023 General election, Prof. A C B Agbazuere has thrown some lights over rumors making round Abia media space that men of the Nigerian Police force attached to the Central Police Command Umuahia arrested him this morning inline with a warrant of arrest issued against him by the Abia State Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Government Properties.
Prof. Agbazuere who addressed journalists after appearing before the panel of inquiry stated that men of the Nigeria police force came to his house that the Commissioner want to see him on getting to the police station the CP wasn’t there until after 10am, so he thought it was a plan to make him to skip appearing before the panel, so the panel can use that opportunity to extend the lifespan of the bench warrant.
In his words “I had fears that since the panel seats by 9am and the police saw me coming out by 8am after 8 to come here they now said CP wanted to see me, and we got to there CP wasn’t there even until after 10”.
“I now said are they planning so that I will be away the second time so that the panel will say I didn’t come again and maybe increase the lifespan of their bench warrant, so I started shouting”.
“ I thank the media, the radio station that aired it, the bloggers and my team of lawyers”.
According to him, he came back from Abuja yesterday just to honor the invitation of the panel not minding that there is a court order restraining the said panel from inviting him and others, but he decided to appear because the panel was all about fact finding.
On the rumor that he was remanded in Afara prison, Prof. Agbazuere said, “I heard that the plan was to take me to afara today, no problem that was why I had to remove the suit I was wearing and change to native, from the panel to afara on suit the heat will be too much, but luckily the enemy has failed”.
It could be recalled that the Abia state panel of inquiry earlier this month issued a warrant of arrest on Prof. A C B Agbazuere over a Government vehicle in his position which according to him was duly given to him by the former Governor of the State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The panel also extended the warrant of arrest of the former Deputy Chief of staff to the Deputy Governor Sir Don Ubani.
The panel last week recovered à government vehicle in custody of the former Provost of Abia State college of Education, Dr. Philip Ntor.
Prof Agbazuere was granted bail to the tune of 500,000 with Hon Dennis Chinwendu Member Representing Isiala Ngwa South state Constituency standing as his surety.
