In a pivotal development amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Sokoto Emirate bill, Sokoto State’s High Court has intervened to block Governor Ahmed Aliyu from dismissing two district heads. These dismissals were part of a broader governmental action targeting 15 district heads allegedly involved in activities undermining state security.
The court order, issued in response to separate pleas from Alhaji Buhari Tambuwal and Alhaji Abubakar Kassim, district heads of Tambuwal and Kebbe respectively, mandates the preservation of their positions pending further judicial review. These leaders were among those recently removed by the state government on charges of disobedience and exacerbating insecurity.
Presiding Judge Kabiru Ibrahim Ahmed has directed Governor Aliyu, the Attorney General, and the Sokoto Sultanate Council to maintain the current administrative arrangement until the case, represented by Prof Ibrahim Abdullahi, SAN, progresses towards resolution.
This legal maneuver underscores the intensifying legal and political tensions surrounding the Sokoto Emirate bill, highlighting broader implications for governance and traditional authority in the region.
