Umuahia, July 1, 2024
The Abia State Government has announced an adjustment to the planned restriction on the operations of tricycles (keke) and motorcycles (okada) in Aba and Umuahia. Initially set to begin today, July 1st, 2024, the restriction will now commence on August 1st, 2024.
The restriction will limit the operations of tricycles and motorcycles between the hours of 7:00 pm and 6:00 am. This change comes in response to numerous pleas from residents requesting additional time to prepare for the policy’s effective implementation and enforcement.
Despite the delay in the restriction’s start date, the enumeration and registration of all commercial vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles in Abia State will proceed as scheduled, beginning today, July 1st, 2024.
Prince Okey Kanu, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, stated that this adjustment is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and adherence to the new regulations.
