The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the detention of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, at Kuje Prison until his bail application is reviewed. The decision was made on Thursday, July 11, after Mamman’s arraignment on a 12-count charge related to money laundering offenses.

Justice James Omotosho issued the directive following the proceedings. The court scheduled the hearing for Mamman’s bail application on Friday, July 12. Until then, the judge mandated that the former minister be held in custody at the Kuje correctional center.

Mamman, who earlier fainted outside the courtroom, was described as unwell by his attorney. He appeared disheartened as he descended from the dock following the judge’s decision.

The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues of corruption and financial misconduct within high levels of government. The upcoming bail hearing will determine whether Mamman will remain in custody or be granted temporary freedom while awaiting trial.
