Akoka, Lagos State
For over three months, staff at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka have locked out their Provost, barring him from accessing his office. The standoff took a violent turn today when a team dispatched by the Minister of Education arrived to mediate the ongoing conflict.
The visiting delegation from Abuja faced hostility as staff members, aided by students, attacked them, resulting in the damage of over five vehicles and the Provost’s official quarters.
Escalating the chaos, the rioters blocked all entrances to the college, trapping people inside. Police intervened to restore order, facing a barrage of stones and water sachets from the aggressive crowd.
Authorities have arrested thirty-two suspects in connection with the violence. The Nigeria Police Force, under the Area Command in Surulere, continues to maintain a presence on the campus to ensure that peace is upheld.
