In a surprise move, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria. This decision emerged from an unscheduled closed-door meeting, initially set for Friday but advanced to Thursday in Abuja.

In addition to this recommendation, the NJC proposed 27 candidates for appointment to state high courts. The meeting is still ongoing.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the current Chief Justice of Nigeria, will retire on August 22 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Further details will follow.
