The people of Umuajuoha Obuzor Umunneato Autonomous Community in Ukwa West Local Government Area, an oil-producing region in Abia State, have expressed their profound appreciation to Governor Dr. Alex Otti for the reconstruction of their long-neglected market, Ahia Orie.
During a site visit, the President General of Umunneato Autonomous Community, Chief Sylvanus Nwazue Ogbuji, spoke to newsmen about the overwhelming joy and renewed sense of hope among the residents. He noted that the market’s redevelopment has restored the community’s faith in governance and given them a greater sense of belonging.
Chief Ogbuji lamented the years of neglect by previous state administrations but thanked Governor Otti for finally addressing their needs. He also commended Dr. Onyeike, General Manager of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), for his role in bringing much-needed development to the area. Chief Ogbuji assured that the community would ensure the proper use and protection of the newly reconstructed market.
Elder of the community, Mr. Chikmaroke Young Chigbuji, along with market women Mrs. Comfort Nwachukwu and Mrs. Nwadiuto Elele, also voiced their gratitude for the market’s reconstruction. They highlighted the market’s strategic importance to the socio-economic development of the community and surrounding areas, praising ASOPADEC for its intervention.
The contractor in charge of the project, Mr. Uchenna Chigbu, explained that the work involves the reconstruction of 14 units, each with 10 open stalls, totaling 140 open market stalls. He expressed optimism that the market’s revitalization would bring positive development to the area and thanked the Commission for its consistent financial support. Mr. Chigbu promised to deliver quality work that meets the project’s specifications.
The community looks forward to the completion of the market, which is expected to significantly boost local commerce and improve the livelihoods of the residents.
