The Concerned Citizens of Ukwa West, a prominent sociocultural group, have expressed their deep concern over what they describe as the meddlesome actions of Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor in the political affairs of Ukwa West.

Ukwa West has enjoyed a long period of relative political peace, attributed to an understanding reached among the three major political blocs in the area: Ipu Group, Asa group, and Ozar group. This agreement has facilitated the peaceful rotation of power among the blocs, ensuring harmony and stability within the region.

Currently, the Ozar bloc holds the chairmanship position of the Labour Party. According to the established rotational arrangement, it is now the turn of the Ipu bloc to produce the Local Government Area (LGA) chairman, with the Asa bloc expected to provide the deputy.

However, the Concerned Citizens have accused Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafo of making desperate moves to impose his candidate on the people of Ukwa West, a move they consider a violation of the long-standing political tradition that has preserved peace in the area. They warn that such actions could lead to a crisis in the council area.

The group has vowed to vehemently resist any attempts by Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafo or any other individual to undermine the political structure and peace of Ukwa West. They have issued a stern warning to Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafo to desist from his “ill-advised meddlesome attitudes,” stating that they will hold him responsible for any political unrest in the region.

In their statement signed by Mr Fidelis Nwambu
Coordinator and Engr Donald Ekpewerechi Secretary General, the  group called on the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, to intervene and caution Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor against further actions that could escalate tensions in Ukwa West.
They advised him to focus on the political affairs of Arochukwu and to leave Ukwa West alone.
