It has been alleged that Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has instructed all 23 local government chairmen in the state to contest under the platform of the All People’s Party (APP) in the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 5th. This move reportedly follows the governor’s loss of control over the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the list of candidates for the October 5th elections features all current caretaker committee chairmen, who are now listed as candidates under the APP. The candidates include:
