Hon. Chris Nkwonta, the Member representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, has urged stakeholders and constituents to remain steadfast and supportive of his efforts to attract meaningful developments to the area. Nkwonta made this call during a stakeholders’ meeting at his Akwete-Ndoki country home on Saturday, where he shared updates on his accomplishments since taking office in 2023.
He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and outlined various initiatives aimed at uplifting the living standards of his constituents. Despite the primary legislative role of lawmaking, Nkwonta highlighted his direct interventions, including distributing over 1,000 bags of rice, providing 45 motorcycles, sponsoring medical treatments, and funding educational support for indigent students by registering over 230 for WAEC and 250 for JAMB. He also mentioned paying ₦10 million in bursaries to 200 students.
Nkwonta emphasized his success in restoring electricity to Ukwa East after years of blackout and revealed plans for establishing the Federal Medical Center Annex in Akwete, for which he has already donated a 24-bed facility. Additionally, construction of solar-powered boreholes and classrooms across several wards in the constituency will commence next month.
The lawmaker also outlined his legislative efforts, including sponsoring multiple bills, motions, and petitions at the National Assembly. Notably, these include bills for amending the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency Act, the Violence Against Persons Act, and a proposed Federal Polytechnic in Ohanso.
Stakeholders present, including Hon. Godwin Adiele, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, Sir Don Ubani, and former lawmakers Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley and Hon. Ngozi Ulunwa, commended Nkwonta’s dedication and effective representation, encouraging him to continue in his impactful efforts.
The meeting concluded with prayers for Hon. Nkwonta and the entire constituency.
