On Monday, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele announced that President Bola Tinubu has allocated 1,200 bags of fertilizer to each senator, with the goal of supporting farmers within their respective districts. In addition, 600 bags of fertilizer have been allocated to each member of the House of Representatives for distribution to farmers across the 360 federal constituencies.
The announcement was made during an event in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, where Bamidele distributed 5,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers in Ekiti Central Senatorial District, which he represents.
Speaking at the event, Bamidele dismissed claims that he opposed regionalism, stating that no bill or memorandum concerning regionalism was currently before the National Assembly. He underscored his commitment to Yoruba interests by highlighting his efforts in passing the South West Development Commission Bill (SWDC) in the Senate. The bill, which aims to protect the interests of the six states in the Southwest, has also passed in the House of Representatives and is awaiting the president’s assent.
Addressing the fertilizer distribution, Bamidele emphasized that the initiative was part of President Tinubu’s efforts to support farmers and invest in agriculture, going beyond mere food aid. He revealed that he secured additional bags to meet the needs of his district, bringing the total to 5,000 bags for Ekiti Central.
“The fertilizer is meant to assist our farmers, regardless of political affiliations,” Bamidele said, stressing that the initiative is focused solely on agricultural support for farmers.
