Hon. Iheonunekwu Ugochukwu Collins, member of the Abia State House of Assembly, has publicly condemned an alleged assault and threats by Hon. Alex Ikwechghi against Mr. Steven Abusuwatseye, a Bolt driver. In a video widely circulated on social media, Hon. Ikwechghi, a lawmaker, is seen engaging in actions described as both aggressive and intimidating.

“It is deeply disappointing to witness such behavior from a public official who is expected to uphold the dignity of our democracy,” stated Hon. Collins. “Such actions are unacceptable, especially from those entrusted to serve the public.”

Hon. Collins also expressed concern over the growing perception of lawlessness among lawmakers, a sentiment shared by some online commenters. “Not all lawmakers are lawless,” he affirmed, seeking to counter the narrative. “I urge the Nigerian government to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure justice is served. Such actions must serve as a deterrent to others.”

Hon. Collins emphasized the principle that “no one is above the law,” underscoring the need for accountability and calling for a justice system that protects all citizens, regardless of status or position.
