….Vows Firm Enforcement

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enforcing the payment of ground rents, declaring that he will not be intimidated or blackmailed by any section of the elite.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT, Wike condemned the deliberate violations of land use laws by individuals and institutions who, he said, feel above the law.

“We will not succumb to blackmail by those who think they are too powerful to obey the law,” the Minister stated. “The payment of ground rent is a legal obligation. Anyone who owns land in the FCT must pay what is due. The laws are clear, and they will be enforced without fear or favour.”

Wike’s comments come amid intensified enforcement actions by the FCT Administration, which recently began sealing and revoking titles of thousands of properties over unpaid ground rents dating back decades.

He emphasized that no amount of pressure or manipulation would deter the FCTA from ensuring compliance, noting that the revenue collected is essential for funding critical infrastructure and development projects in the capital city.
