The Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has suspended HRH Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the Diawa I of Umudiawa Autonomous Community in Ohuhu, Umuahia North L.G.A, for a period of six months.

In a resolution dated 27th June 2025 and signed by the Chairman and other principal officers of the Council, Eze Ofoegbu was found to have shown “consistent and flagrant disregard” for the instructions of the Council by parading a parallel South East Traditional Rulers Council, code-named South East Progressive Traditional Rulers Forum (Nigbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Forum).

According to the Council, Eze Ofoegbu’s actions were “inciting members against the Traditional Rulers of the State” and undermining the authority and cohesion of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers. The letter also noted that his activities, allegedly led by HRM Eze Dr. E. C. Okeke, brought disrepute and dishonor to the Council and the State Government.

The resolution was signed by:

  • HRM Eze Sir Linus N. Mbah (KSS, KSM), Chairman
  • HRM Eze Nelson Nmerengwa, 1st Deputy Chairman
  • HRM Eze Franklin Nwosu, 2nd Deputy Chairman
  • HRM Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, 3rd Deputy Chairman

The suspension will last six months while the Council has recommended to the State Government to withhold his monthly honorarium during this period.

The letter was copied to His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti (Governor of Abia State) and the Commissioner of Police for Abia State for further action.
