The former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has appealed to Mr. Godfrey Evurulobi, a Germany-based entrepreneur and CEO of the Gosab Group of Companies, to consider establishing a home care facility in Abia State.
Dr. Ikpeazu made the appeal during a visit to Mr. Evurulobi’s office in Cologne, Germany. He noted that he considers geriatric care critical to improving life expectancy, a priority that aligned with his administration’s initiative to establish a geriatric unit during his tenure as governor, which was spearheaded by a diasporan, Dr. Chulks Osondu.
Mr. Evurulobi, who has hosted the last two biannual convention of the Premier International Association, a pan-Nigerian organization, with Dr. Ikpeazu serving as keynote speaker, warmly received the former Governor and conducted him around the various Gosab offices in Cologne.
Dr. Ikpeazu commended Mr. Evurulobi for his outstanding accomplishments and the positive impact he is making through his companies in caring for the elderly in Germany. He also praised the staff of Gosab Care for their dedication and the difference they are making in the lives of senior citizens.
“What you’re doing is truly remarkable. This is a highly regulated environment; you couldn’t operate here if you weren’t doing things right. I strongly urge you to consider bringing this model home. I believe you have the capacity to manage a branch of your company in Nigeria, Aba to be precise, that will cater to the elderly,” Ikpeazu said.
He further explained that, during his time in office, the Abia State Government established a geriatric unit within the Office of the Governor, with a mandate to visit elderly citizens in their homes.
“I recall several cases where elderly individuals were found unkempt and dependent on expired medications due to the lack of proper home care services,” the former Govenror noted.
Dr. Ikpeazu emphasized the growing need for structured elderly care facilities in Abia State, pointing out that many diaspora families are actively seeking reliable alternatives to help care for their aging loved ones back home.
In response, Mr. Evurulobi expressed his appreciation to the former governor for visiting and for his consistent support of initiatives that promote the welfare of Abians.
“It is highly commendable that even after leaving office, you continue to champion causes that benefit our people,” he said.
He revealed that Gosab is already operating a hospital in Aba, Abia State, and assured that the establishment of a geriatric care home in the region is something the company’s management is actively considering.
Mr. Evurulobi thanked Dr. Ikpeazu for honoring their invitation, interacting with staff, and offering valuable encouragement. He also wished the former governor continued success in his future endeavors.
