This resolution was reached during the party’s 101st NEC meeting held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, where members deliberated extensively on the state of the party and strategies to safeguard its electoral mandates.

In a statement issued at the end of the meeting, the NEC directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to take swift legal action to enforce the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, particularly Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g), which mandate the forfeiture of seats by lawmakers who defect from the party under which they were elected.

The PDP maintained that there is no division or merger in the party to justify such defections, rendering the actions of the defectors unconstitutional and their seats legally vacant.

The party vowed to reclaim all mandates given to it by Nigerians and ensure that the will of the electorate is protected.
