The announcement was made Thursday in Awka through a statement issued by the governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.

According to the release, Achor emerged as the top candidate following a highly competitive and transparent selection process. The process reportedly involved computer-based testing, thorough screening exercises, and a final interaction with Governor Soludo himself.

Mr. Achor’s ties with Anambra State date back to his student days. He later served in the state during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he earned the prestigious State Merit Award as the best corps member. His exceptional performance led to an automatic appointment into the Anambra State Civil Service by the then military administration.

Since then, Achor has steadily risen through the ranks — from Director to Permanent Secretary — before attaining his new role as Accountant General.

The governor’s office stressed that Achor’s appointment marks a departure from the past, where such top-level roles were often influenced by political loyalty, ethnic background, or gubernatorial discretion.

“This appointment seeks to institutionalize fairness, professionalism, and national integration within the state’s administrative architecture,” the statement said. “The appointment of non-indigenes to such high-level roles reaffirms Anambra’s openness, progressivism, and cosmopolitan spirit.”

“It sends a clear political message that Anambra belongs to all Nigerians who are willing to serve with excellence,” the statement added.

Governor Soludo congratulated Mr. Achor on the appointment and charged him to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication in the interest of the people of Anambra State.
