In a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, the Ministry acknowledged concerns raised by stakeholders across the media landscape regarding the shutdown of the Minna-based radio station.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, during an expanded Niger State APC Caucus Meeting held on August 1, cited alleged unethical broadcasting and incitement against the state government as reasons for the suspension of the station.

The Minister emphasized that, in line with existing broadcast laws, the suspension or revocation of broadcast licenses is the statutory responsibility of the NBC. He welcomed the Niger State Government’s decision to formally lodge its complaints with the Commission, noting that this step aligns with due process.

“The Ministry urges all parties to exercise restraint and allow the NBC to carry out its regulatory and adjudicatory functions without interference,” the statement read.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom, professionalism in broadcasting, and upholding the rule of law.
