Umuahia – The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a young man suspected to be of unsound mind who was seen roaming the streets of Umuahia on Monday morning wielding a machete.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Central Police Station in Umuahia was promptly alerted after residents raised concerns over the presence of the armed individual. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led the swift response that resulted in the suspect being apprehended and disarmed without incident.
Earlier in the day, ABN TV had raised an alarm over the machete-wielding man, urging authorities to act swiftly to avoid any possible threat to lives and property.
The police have assured the public that the situation is under control and that further investigations are ongoing.
