Osisioma, Abia State, Nigeria.
Residents of the Summit Area in Osisioma Local Government Area took to the streets in protest against Aba Power Holdings over prolonged power outages that have left the community in darkness for weeks. Chanting “Aba Power Holdings, give us light,” the protesters marched to the company’s headquarters in Osisioma, demanding immediate restoration of their electricity supply.
The demonstrators expressed frustration over the perceived negligence of the power provider, accusing Aba Power Holdings of failing to deliver essential services. The residents, who are prepared to pay for reliable power supply, emphasized their readiness to comply with any requirements set by the company.
Mr. Friday Kingsley Enyinna, the leader of the protest, voiced the community’s grievances, highlighting the extended power outage that has plagued the area for months. “We are capable of paying for prepaid meters if it guarantees us 24/7 power supply,” he stated, criticizing the company for issuing exorbitant bills despite the lack of electricity.
Other residents, including Bishop Michezadek Johovah, Mrs. Peace Onuigbo, and Mrs. Nnenna Ndukwe, echoed these concerns, pointing out the severe impact of the power outage on businesses and daily activities within the Estate. They stressed that the lack of electricity has crippled economic activities and disrupted the lives of many residents.
The protest underscores the growing discontent among residents and their demand for immediate action from Aba Power Holdings to restore power and address the issues of overbilling and service reliability.
