Falana & Falana’s Chambers has issued a formal demand to Martins Vincent Otse, following defamatory statements made against renowned Nigerian musician and human rights activist, Folarin Falana, also known as Falz. The letter, dated September 26, 2024, calls for the immediate withdrawal and retraction of defamatory allegations that were published on social media platforms.

According to the letter, Martins Otse posted on Instagram on September 25, accusing Falz of conspiring with Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to pervert the cause of justice and suggesting that Falz had questionable associations. The law firm categorically denied these allegations, stating that the claims were entirely baseless and harmful to the reputation of their client.

The letter outlined that Bobrisky had contacted Falz for legal advice regarding financial assistance, which Falz declined. Despite this, Otse published a statement insinuating Falz’s involvement in dubious activities. Falana & Falana’s Chambers labeled the publication as “reckless” and “vicious,” demanding a retraction within 24 hours or face legal consequences, including potential monetary damages.

The law firm is also seeking a public apology across all platforms where the defamatory statements were disseminated, emphasizing that Falz remains a respected figure in Nigeria’s activism and entertainment spheres. The chamber’s letter, signed by Taiwo E. Olawale, warned of serious legal action if the demands are not met.

This incident has sparked conversations about the potential misuse of social media platforms and the legal implications of defamatory remarks made online.
