In a significant political shift in Abia State, Chief Don Ubani, a long-standing member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Commissioner of Information, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after 25 years with the PDP. The mass defection, which included 1,000 PDP members from Asa North Ward in Ukwa West, was marked by jubilant celebrations.
Alongside Ubani, other prominent figures who left the PDP for the APC include Chief John Ajuzieogu, former Ukwa West Local Government Chairman and PDP Party Chairman, Chief Basil Awauwa, and Elder Alison Obiajunwa. The reception took place at the residence of Elder Chidi Ahuruonye in Umuekechi Asa, drawing top APC leaders from across the state.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Chief Dr. Eruba Dimgba, Abia State Representative on the NDDC Board, Hon. Chief Chris Nkwonta, Ukwa East/West House of Reps Member, and Hon. Mezie Nwubani, former Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly.
Dr. Eruba Dimgba celebrated the growth of the APC, attributing its success to party unity and urging existing members to embrace the newcomers, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Hon. Chris Nkwonta expressed enthusiasm about the large-scale defection, describing it as a testament to the APC’s growing influence in Ukwa West. He encouraged members to work tirelessly for the party’s progress, hinting at more defections in the near future.
