No fewer than 15 generals from the Nigerian Army’s Artillery Corps have officially retired from service, as reported by *PUNCH Online*. The Artillery Corps is known for providing crucial heavy firepower support to frontline allied forces during combat.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Nigerian Army disclosed that the retirees included 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals. Their formal pulling-out ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
“The Nigerian Army formally pulled out 15 retired generals from the Artillery Corps on Saturday, October 19, 2024, during a ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State,” the post read.
During the ceremony, Maj Gen James Myam (retd.), who spoke on behalf of the retirees, reflected on their long military careers. He expressed gratitude for divine protection throughout their service and extended thanks to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve. He also commended Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, wishing him continued success in leading the Nigerian Army.
Myam recounted their early days as Officer Cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna and advised active officers to remain loyal to the Constitution and maintain a high level of vigilance and security consciousness. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to their families, friends, instructors, and mentors who supported them throughout their careers.
The event was attended by several senior retired and serving military officers, including former Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Alwali Kazir (retd).
