A powerful coalition of opposition figures converged on Wednesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, for the official unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new political platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Among the notable personalities present were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, and FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe.

Others in attendance included Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central); John Odigie-Oyegun, former APC National Chairman; former Governors Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); as well as Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Governor of Kaduna State.

The coalition, aiming to form a formidable opposition front ahead of 2027, had earlier selected former Senate President David Mark as its Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary.

Wednesday’s high-profile gathering is seen as a strategic move to signal the coalition’s seriousness in mounting a united front against the current administration.
