Abuja – The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued an urgent flood prediction alert, warning that several locations across 16 states in Nigeria are at risk of flooding due to expected heavy rainfall from 16th to 20th July, 2025.

The alert, released through the National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS CENTER), warns that persistent heavy rainfall during the period may lead to flooding in the following areas:

 

Adamawa State: Mubi

Akwa Ibom State: Edor, Upenekang, Oron, Eket

Borno State: Ngala, Maiduguri

Bauchi State: Azare, Bauchi, Itas, Jama’are, Kafin-Madaki, Jama’a, Kari, Misau

Plateau State: Jos, Bukuru, Mangu

Yobe State: Jakusko, Machina, Dapchi

Katsina State: Daura

Kano State: Kunchi, Kano, Gezawa, Wudil, Bebeji, Sumaila, Tudun Wada

Jigawa State: Miga, Gwaram, Dignsa, Ringim, Dutse

Cross River State: Calabar, Akpap

Zamfara State: Bungudu, Gusau

The Ministry has called on relevant stakeholders and state governments to take immediate precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of flooding in the listed areas.

 

The statement, signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, emphasized the need for cooperation and timely feedback from state representatives to aid effective response and preparedness.

 

Residents of the affected areas are advised to remain alert, follow weather updates, and adhere strictly to any safety advisories issued by local authorities.
