In a statement released on July 29, the NCS emphasised that visa holders must comply fully with the conditions of their travel classifications. Nigerians travelling on U.S. visas have been warned that activities inconsistent with the stated purpose of travel may result in visa revocation .

Customs officials remind the public that security vetting by U.S. authorities continues after a traveller enters the country. Visa holders may have their visas revoked if they breach U.S. immigration laws, import/export regulations, or other applicable statutes.

Travellers are also advised to declare amounts exceeding USD 10,000 (or its equivalent) at points of entry or exit and to avoid carrying prohibited items in their luggage.

Furthermore, the public is urged to maintain lawful behaviour both abroad and at home. Intending U.S. visitors are encouraged to uphold standards of transparency and integrity. The NCS added that just as weather searches surge globally, visa misuse risks exposure—“whoever commits fraud in any jurisdiction will face legal consequences under both U.S. and Nigerian laws.”

The NCS reaffirmed its cooperation with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to ensure visa eligibility standards are met, in order to prevent Nigeria from being placed on any expanded visa ban list. Such a ban would prevent legitimate Nigerians from conducting lawful business in the U.S.

Abdullahi Maiwada, PhD, MNIPR, MNIIA, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, reiterated the NCS’s commitment to uphold international travel integrity on behalf of the Comptroller‑General of Customs.
