.. As bill pass first Reading, Capital to be cited at Lokpanta in Abia State.
A bill seeking the creation of Etiti State in the Southeast geo-political zone was read for the first time on the floor of the House of Reps during plenary today.
The sponsors Amobi Ogah, Miriam Onuoha, Kama Nkemkama, Chinwe Nnabuife, and Anayo Onwuegbu seek the proposed state
to be created out of the present Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
When created, Etiti State will have 11 LGA’s drawn from the five states with the capital to be located at Lokpanta.
The bill is seeking to alter three sections of the 1999 constitution, to delete the word 36 and replace it with 37 to accommodate the new state and to insert the word Etiti, immediately after Enugu in the list of states contained in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The local govts to be affected if the state is created are Isuikwuato and Umu-Nneochi (Abia),
Orumba North and Orumba South (Anambra), Ivo and Ohaozara (Ebonyi), Aninri, Awgu and Oji River (Enugu) as well as Okigwe and Onuimo (Imo).
It could be recalled that on June 4th 2024, the House of Representatives  took a step towards the creation of a new state in the South-East geo-political zone of the country.
Lawmakers on the floor of the House during Thursday’s plenary passed a bill for first reading for the creation of Orlu State.
The bill sponsored by the member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere and others is now set for a second reading.
The member Representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah who in a voice note that was widely circulated assured his people that the plans of Ikenga to move them out of Abia will not work and will be resisted by all means.
Creation of Etiti state is well mapped out plan as Representatives key Federal Constituency that will make up the new State are the ones sponsoring the bill for the creation of Etiti State.
